Senior Instructor with 30 years experience of teaching Martial Arts

Unlike many clubs, we take a holistic approach to martial arts, they should be studied to enhance your physical abilities, and to promote health as well as fitness.
"I started at Shin Gi Tai after my daughter had been going for 6 months. I liked the idea of having a personal challenge as well as being able to encourage my daughter. The instructors are friendly and really helpful. I would recommend Shin Gi Tai to anyone looking to learn self defence or a new physical challenge"

We are Shin Gi Tai Martial Arts Academy - Because not all Martial Arts clubs are created equal

"I wish I had taken up Karate 40+ years ago."

Train With Us

It’s quite an easy process to start to train with us. Please telephone us on 01256 883302 to arrange which class you would like to try a Free Week of classes with us. Please ensure that you telephone before coming to join in, as several of the classes have a waiting list in operation.

What you need to bring:

  • A drink of water to drink during class – in a plastic container

  • T-Shirt and shorts or other comfortable trousers such as tracksuit bottoms

  • Children should bring their parent or carer with them to sit and watch the class

  • Many children (and adults) like to bring a friend to their first class to join in with them,
  • so that they have someone that they know present, if you would like to do this, please
  • let us know when you telephone.

Things to remember:

  • We’ve all had to start Martial Arts practise somewhere, so don’t try and copy or keep
  • up with the more experienced students just yet.

  • Your Martial Arts practise shouldn’t hurt you if you are doing it correctly. If it does tell
  • us immediately, so that we can see what is wrong and help you to fix it.

  • Martial Arts practise is meant to be fun, albeit with a good workout, we all have to go
  • to work or school the next day so practise safely and listen to your own body.

  • Depending upon how active you are, you may be a little sore the next day, so please
  • remember to stretch your muscles out.

  • Please arrive 10 minutes before the start of the class so that you can meet the
  • instructors and have a chat with them about what the lesson will cover and how you
  • should approach it.

  • In case you want to join us on the last night of your free week of lessons, please bring
  • your bank details including account number and sort code, (you will usually find these
  • in your cheque book). You will need to pay your membership and first months training
  • fees by cash or cheque.
