Shin Gi Tai Martial Arts Academy and The Pink Place came together to run a Combat Cancer class to help raise funds for The Pink Place, which is a Basingstoke Based charity which provides free of charge therapies and services to people with Breast Cancer. It’s a great cause which is close to our hearts as one of our coaches is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
The idea of the evening was to take part in a Body Combat class, have some fun and to raise lots of money. The theme for the evening was to wear a decorated Bra whilst working out, which all the participants, men and women did, the best dressed Bra award won a prize, so the competition was stiff with lots of ruffles, sequins and other flourishes on display.
The class was led by qualified Combat Coaches Caroline Halil and Lindsey Andrews and they ran what was a packed class through a number of very energetic routines with the participants kicking and punching their way through to the end of the class. At the end of the class, everyone had some drinks and nibbles and purchased those last minute raffle tickets, there was an assortment of prizes, ranging from bottles of wine, to Reiki Treatments, Heart rate monitor watches and Sony in Viables donated a camera to the raffle.
Thank you to everyone who helped in either organising the event or provided raffle prizes, this helped to raise a total of £1301 for The Pink Place. It was a great evening, all the participants enjoyed it and they all raised a lot of money for a very worthy local charity. Further information on The Pink Place is available here www.thepinkplace.org.uk if you would like to donate to them and regular Body Combat classes can be found at www.basingstokekarate.com/body-combat.
