Karate club Basingstoke, Ladies Karate, Shotokan, Goju, Shito, Wado, GKR, GKR Karate, Our Basingstoke based Martial Arts Academy entered a team of competitors into Karate England’s (Karate’s governing body) National Championships on 30th September in Loughborough. Despite some very experienced and strong opponents against internationals from across the UK and Ireland, we won a number of medals. This was probably our toughest competition so far with some very hard matches, even those people who didn’t win a medal gave a good account of themselves and once again improved their performance.

Our medal results were:-

Lindsey Andrews – Gold Medal – Ladies Veterans Kata.

Mark Nevola – Silver Medal – Mens Shobu Ippon Kumite (Sparring)

Edward van Meerkerk – Two x Bronze Medals for the boy’s Shotokan Kata and Open Kata.

All three train at Shin Gi Tai Martial Arts School in Basingstoke. Lindsey and Mark are two of the Coaching Team at our Martial Arts school and both competitors have represented England at an International Level.
