Because martial art training is typically high intensity and usually lasts for 60 or 90 minutes, it can burn upto 700-1000 calories. Our current record is burning nearly 1100 calories in a single 60 minute session. Learning  martial arts therefore is great for anyone who wants to lose weight and lose it fast or if they want to improve their general levels of fitness.

We incorporate exercises and drills that improve cardiovascular fitness and endurance, help build muscle strength and improve muscle flexibility so it’s a great exercise for anyone wanting to improve their overall fitness. Cardiovascular fitness improvements require us to regularly elevate our heart rate for extended periods and our martial arts training will help us do that. All classes start with a good warm up and conditioning exercises that are great for improving one’s fitness.

Improving the strength,  size  and shape of our muscles requires us to regularly subject them to some form of resistance training. Martial arts training helps provide this training by requiring us to perform exercises like push-ups and squats using our own body weight for resistance.  Plus there are also partner assisted exercises, where two people work together to provide advanced resistance training to help you to ‘overload’ your muscles and thereby increasing your levels of fitness.

Improved flexibility is a natural by-product of martial arts training because we incorporate stretching exercises in our workouts based on both Martial Arts exercises and other disciplines such as Yoga. We use different methods of stretching depending on what results we want to achieve including for example static, dynamic and  PNF.

Our adult classes are a lot more demanding than the children’s classes, both physically and mentally for the students. Individually students are pushed as much as they wish to, in order to help them achieve their goals from their Martial Arts training. We have a range of classes suitable for adults, ranging from Martial Arts to fitness classes. Depending upon the classes, it can be a light to medium workout through to full intensity.

One of the paramount things to stress is that safety is an important aspect of what we do. Both in terms of ensuring the correct safety equipment is used to prevent injuries, but also ensuring that each student fully understands each technique they learn and develop it to suit their own body to ensure no damage is done to joints and muscles. Unlike many clubs, we take a holistic approach to martial arts, they should be studied to enhance your physical abilities, and to promote health as well as.
